I recently was given the opportunity to attempt a VPN connection via Satellite internet access (WildBlue). Upon connection to the VPN, the connection speeds to the network resources were found to be extremely slow. After much troubleshooting and research, I have found that due the latency of Satellite internet access a reliable VPN connection is nearly impossible.
Luckily, DSL became available at this remote location and we were able to remedy the problem by switching internet service.
The latency times for Satellite internet access (WildBlue) were always between 1000 - 1300 ms while the DSL had a considerably lower latency between 30 - 40 ms.
How does one measure the latency of their connection? For windows users simply navigate to Start > Run and type "CMD". In the window, type "ping yahoo.com". You can obviously replace yahoo.com with any domain of your choice.
