Ok, so if you haven't already heard today... then where have you been. Google, or "The Google" as President Bush says, released Google Chrome today. It's pretty much a killer browser right off the get-go. However, in the 10 minutes I've been using it, I have found just a few drawbacks. In the interest of fairness, I think it will be good to cite both the good and bad (what I've noticed anyway).
In random alphabetical order:
- Password protect and encrypt my prescious passwords with a SUPER password.
.... MISSING. Suck.
- Each tab runs in its own process. Who would have thought?! Now if one tab crashes, guess what, nothing else will. That's fantastic.
.... INCLUDED. Killer.
- Hidden status bar. Google, thank you so much for that extra 10 pixels of screen real estate. Not to mention making the browser just that much cleaner.
.... INCLUDED. Nice, very nice!
- Transfer tabs between windows. You know, I've tried to do this with FireFox a while back (out of curiosity) but it never worked. Great feature to include. Sometimes you just want to rearrange the tabs in seperate windows.
.... INCLUDED. Sweet.
- Toolbars & add-ons. Where, oh where, are my toolbars. I have to admit, I love the fact that I can find very useful developer tools for FireFox. I don't see an option for add-ons, but then again... its only the first release. However, I see that it includes the nice 'Inspect Element' tool on the context menu. But it still won't replace my FireBug (at the moment).
.... MISSING. Eh.
- Quick! The browser is blazing fast and have a smaller memory footprint than FireFox or IE.
.... INCLUDED. You better believe it!
I have to say, I really like the Google Minimalistic approach on all of their products. There isnt much clutter and things are VERY easy to find. Good job on the first release! Give it a try!
