Windows Server 2000 - (DST) Daylight Savings Time 2007 Update
Being that the great Y2K7 is just 6 days away, I feel this post can prove to be helpful to others looking to update Windows Server 2000. Unfortunately, Microsoft has decided to provide only a KB for updating Windows Server 2000 and having an option to download a Patch for $4,000. Honestly, after reading how simple the change should be, I don't see where the $4,000 price came from.
Having a few servers running windows 2000, I have been researching the best methods to perform the Daylight Savings Time 2007 update. There are many different posts around the internet talking about the best way to apply the update, and I'd like to update my findings for anyone who may need the assistance.
I have found a webcast that Microsoft has put together explaining the reasoning and changes needed for the DST2007 update. After watching the video and consulting other IT professionals regarding this update, I have found that using TZedit.exe would seem to be the easiest solution.
Download TZedit.
Even if you choose to edit the registry manually, TZedit can be a great tool to verify that the changes have been made.
Good luck!
**UPDATE**
To make the change using TZedit, you will need to modify the timezone using the tool. After changing the timezone, you will need to apply a different timezone to the system then change back to your local timezone. If you watch the video, it explains the reasoning for this.
Contact me if there are any questions! I'd be glad to help.
